Election day is Monday, October 22, 2018.

 

Nominations

Candidates must file to run by nomination day. Candidates must be eligible for nomination.

Nomination day is Friday, July 27, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Clerk with certify or reject nominations on Monday, July 30, 2018.

The following nomination rules and deadlines apply for all candidates:

  • You must file your nomination papers at the City Clerk's Office between May 1 and July 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., during regular office hours
  • You must file your nomination on the prescribed form with the filing fee ($200 for mayor, $100 for all other offices)
  • You can pay the filing fee by cash, debit, certified cheque or money order
  • You may only spend or raise funds for your campaign after filing your nomination papers
  • You can only run for one office
  • If you file for more than one office, the last nomination filed will be the one accepted (and any previous ones will be considered withdrawn)
  • You may withdraw your nomination any time before 2:00 p.m. on July 27, 2018 (nomination day)
  • You can consult with the Clerk's Office before filing.

 Qualifications include: 

  • You must live in the municipality (or you or your spouse must own or lease land in the municipality)
  • You are a Canadian citizen on election day
  • You are at least 18 years old on election day
  • You are not prohibited from voting for any reason
  • You must continue to qualify throughout the term of office

·       Ensure the powers, duties and functions of the municipality are appropriately carried out

Meeting responsibilities:

  • You are expected to attend all council meetings-accommodations can be made if you are away to attend by phone
  • There are two council meetings every month on Monday evenings at City Hall
  • Mayor and council hours are mostly in the evenings and on weekends
  • Committee meetings occur once a month
  • You are allowed 4 absences per year and 10 sick days over the term
